Hey there,

Most of us think of chlorine as the pool smell. It shows up for a second, we notice it, and we move on.

Adding chlorine to municipal water is a big part of why cholera and typhoid stopped infecting people.

But chlorine reacts with organic matter and forms an entirely new group of compounds called disinfection byproducts, or DBPs.

The EPA sets a legal limit on how much your water can contain. That limit exists for a reason.

A pooled analysis of European and North American studies found an association between long-term DBP exposure and increased bladder cancer risk in men.

These are population-level associations built on decades of exposure and they're consistent enough that regulators watch these compounds closely.

Then there's the part almost nobody talks about.

Hot water. Steam. Ten minutes of direct contact with your skin, in a closed room.

DBPs are absorbed through skin and inhaled in the shower air.

Research has found that showering can deliver more chloroform exposure than drinking the same water does.

And a 2007 study found the bladder cancer association wasn't limited to drinking water. It showed up with showering and bathing too.

This means filtering your drinking water addresses only part of the picture. You're still showering in unfiltered water twice a day.

That’s why we created a two-part approach: our purifiers for drinking water and our showerhead filter for shower water.

The AquaTru Carafe purifier has been tested and certified by IAPMO to NSF standards to remove 84 contaminants. The showerhead filter handles the water you shower in.
