Well friends,

It’s time to say goodbye to another companion. The Base Trail was a special project for Atreyu. While it was never our best seller, it built a small and mighty fan base of dedicated athletes down to the last pairs.

Sitting right in the middle of the road-to-trail spectrum, the Base Trail was meant to get people off the beaten path and onto routes less traveled. I used to tell folks, “If you’re trying to scale a mountainside with technical terrain, this probably isn’t your shoe.” However, if you wanted something to spark adventure, I can’t think of a better tool in the quiver. For those looking for a snappy analog ground-feel experience, this was a contender. It accompanied many of my good friends on their 100-mile ultra efforts. Some folks used it as a road shoe. This really was a "to each their own" style model for Atreyu.

If you were following along, you might know I love to confirm any model in a real world experience - typically a race. The Base Trail was a bit different. Base Trail confirmation was during a Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim endeavor with my good friends Darien, Don, and Shad. Out in the open, no chip times, no clock. That day was one of the greatest outdoor experiences of my life. The Base Trail carried me through it, and in turn, inspired me to chase more adventures like it: long days on foot, great company, and scenery you can’t buy with a race entry.

Cheers to the Base Trail ...Happy trails to you!
