In a recent survey by somebody, 27% of marketers said they feared that AI would "challenge their job safety.”

Among the other 73%, a few chose early retirement, a few chose joyful ignorance, and a few had already enrolled in trade school, probably.

But most of the ain't-afraid-of-no-robots crowd is already figuring out how to use AI at work. They're adapting.

Or at least, we hope they are. Because as we’ve said in these emails before: the AI train is coming, and all of us who do creative work—in marketing or otherwise—will soon have to either climb aboard or get run over.

In the next few years, we’ll spend a lot of time sorting out what “creative” work means in a world where AI can not only do the tedious stuff but much of the work of actually bringing something to life.

For now, you want to be in the crowd that's getting ready for an AI future. You want to know what tools are out there and how they can help you get stuff done, or do stuff better. If you’re a marketer, you can start by reading The best AI tools for marketers, by Braveen Kumar.

If you're not a marketer, it's worth perusing anyway—most of the tools Braveen writes about are useful to just about any creatives.

Also, quick note: Braveen is Canadian. As such, he subsists exclusively on fresh salmon and seal meat—mental superfoods that supply him with extraordinary cognitive powers. Pay heed.

No lights? No camera? Action! It's AI video.

Speaking of stuff AI can do. Last week we launched a new way to make a video from scratch, with AI doing pretty much all the work. You tell ChatGPT what you want. It will write you a script, then turn it into a video, using visuals it creates (which will be pretty much what you’d expect from AI at this point), then set it up in Descript, where you can edit, add your own video or other visuals, or do anything you want. It’s wild.

It’s also an interesting look at where the “what exactly is creativity” conversation might be headed. Making a video with the Descript GPT, you feel like you’re sitting in the director’s chair: Somebody else is doing most of the actual work, but you’re telling them what you want, and making all the decisions. Still creative.

Check it out.

Go global, without going anywhere

Before AI, if you wanted to translate your video into a whole bunch of different languages, you had to join the United Nations. Which, frankly, was awful. Even if you could afford the initiation fee, the monthly dues were outrageous, the location wasn’t great, and it felt like they hadn’t updated the locker rooms in like 20 years.

Now you just use Descript. With our new AI translation, you can dub your video and create captions in 20-plus* languages. So you can reach audiences all over the world.

Here’s Ramdy with a taste of our new international flavors.

*Yes, that's marketing speak for "21." But we're adding more languages all the time, so look for "30-plus" and beyond, coming soon.

A real-time demo from real-live people

Most people don't realize this, but Descript changes a lot. We're constantly releasing new features, tweaking workflows, and improving the editor. It's all very nuanced, but the point is: even if you've been using Descript for a while, it's sometimes good to get a basic refresher.

Fortunately, you can do that live, in a few weeks. Support hero Marcello and community czar Christiana will give a quick demo, and then answer any questions you have about Descript.

If you're new to Descript, even better.
