What is calisthenics?

Pushups, Pullups, Planks. What do they have in common? They’re all examples of calisthenic exercises.

But while that sounds technical, don’t worry, you’re probably already doing calisthenics! It simply means using body weight as resistance.

Calisthenics may be all the rage right now, but Freeletics has been all about bodyweight training since we started, and it’s embedded in all of our training plans. And for good reason; this versatile training method enhances strength, flexibility, mental well-being and is suitable for complete beginners and seasoned pros alike as it can be done virtually anywhere.

Check out the key benefits in the table below, or find out all you need to know in our blog – including how calisthenics compares to other training modalities like HIIT, cardio, and plyometrics.
