The squeeze is on in upstate New York

SONAR Key Market Insights: Albany, New York

Highlights

Capacity is tight in Albany, New York, as outbound tender rejection levels remain above 10%, at 13.51%.

Albany is double the national average for tender rejections and has seen an 11% increase week over week in outbound tender volumes.

OTRI in Albany hasn’t consistently been below 10% since the beginning of November, indicating there is an inflated spot market. The one downside about the inflated spot rate is that because the freight mix is heavily skewed toward inbound loads, it’s hard to get carriers out once they’re up in the Northeast.

Quotable

“Given that many shippers have already been pulling forward demand for several months, the degree to which frontloading will intensify is hard to predict. At the moment, as we’re still in the Lunar New Year holiday slowdown period, ocean rates have remained unchanged. But we could expect demand and rates to increase post-LNY.”
