Hi ,

Since the Miracle Base Coat sold through, a few of you have asked whether Rescue Nail Polish does the same job. The answer is partly. They leave a similar natural finish and both contain hexanal, the strengthening ingredient behind Miracle, but they were built for different nail concerns.

When we talk about a weak nail, we usually mean one that’s soft and bendy. It flexes instead of holding its shape, folds under pressure and often tears at the free edge before getting much length. Some people have always had nails like this, while for others it becomes more noticeable over time.

A damaged nail gives you different clues. It peels, flakes or splits into layers, often after repeated wetting and drying, gel or acrylic removal, acetone, over-filing or too much buffing. The same distinction applies to toenails, even if you notice them less while they spend winter in closed shoes.

These aren’t medical diagnoses, and nails won’t always fall neatly into one box. A nail can be thin and peeling at the same time. But when you’re choosing nail care, the useful question is whether your nail bends too easily or whether its layers are coming apart.

That matters because a hardener isn’t automatically the answer to every nail that breaks. Additional rigidity can help a soft, flexible nail, but on an already dry, peeling or brittle nail, too much rigidity may lead to more snapping.

One shared ingredient doesn’t make two products identical either. The rest of the formulation and the way you use it determine what each product is designed to do.

For visible peeling, splitting or dryness, a daily bare-nail serum and oil routine is the more intensive place to start. The Ultimate Nail Rescue gives the serum direct access to the nail plate, where it hydrates and conditions, while the oil helps slow water loss and protect the surface. It can’t glue separated layers back together, and nothing topical can replace layers that have already been filed or peeled away. What it can do is support and protect the nail while that damaged section grows out.

If you’d prefer to wear something during recovery, the Rescue Nail Polish & Remover Set is the wearing option. It helps minimise splitting, peeling and breakage while giving the nail a natural glow, and its Remover Serum lifts the polish without acetone.

Because it’s worn as a polish, it won’t condition the nail as intensively as serum and oil applied every day to a bare nail. That doesn’t make it the wrong product. It simply means the routine should match how noticeable your concern is and the result you’re hoping to see.

If your nails are soft and bendy rather than peeling, the Growth Nail Polish & Remover Set is the better current fit. Keeping them short, filing gently with a fine file and going easy on the buffer will also help while they grow. We’ve got a more intensive Growth routine coming later this year.

It can be tempting to choose the routine you’d most like to use, particularly if you prefer to keep polish on. But choosing the right product is only one part of looking after your nails, and no routine can outwork the damage happening to them every day. If you bite your nails, pick at peeling layers or use them as tools, a topical product can condition and protect them, but it can’t change the behaviour that’s causing the damage. If long, strong, healthy nails are the goal, changing those habits has to be part of the routine too.

We’re also working on a more detailed routine guide that will make each of these paths easier to see. We’ll share that with you soon.

If a nail change is sudden, painful, affecting several nails or isn’t improving, it’s worth speaking with your GP or dermatologist too. Nail care can support your nails, but it can’t diagnose an underlying medical cause.

As always, if you have any questions about your specific concerns, please get in touch with us, we’d love to help.
