Catalog & DPA News for Experts

Hello Catalogers,

This week, we're giving you

A catalog cult meme
A way to speed up your DPA optimization
A little teaser of what's to come

But first, the meme

If you know, you know.

The Problem With Large Catalogs

If you're a brand with a large catalog (600+ SKU's), the learning phase for your your catalog ads can move at a snails pace.

This might be why...

When you’re running campaigns for a large catalog, your budget is stretched thin testing against every product.

This delays optimization and drags out your learning phase.

So what can you do?

1. Adjust your expectations

Large catalogs need time. Budget for several weeks of consistent spend to let the algorithm do its job. Patience is key.

2. Segment your catalog

You can create smaller product collections across your catalog (e.g., dresses., tops, pants, men's, women's, etc.). These smaller collections will result in faster learning periods and quicker results.

3. Find hidden winners

Different collections will appeal to different audiences. Testing subcategories can reveal high performers and untapped opportunities.

Ideally, you should do both:

Run ads against your entire catalog
Run ads against product collections

Some brands we work with have incredible results running ads against their entire catalog, while others live and die by product segmentation.

The important thing is to always be TESTING. For some reason, most people don't even think testing is a thing with catalog ads - they're wrong!! Test your segmentation, your targeting and obviously your catalog creative.

With the right strategy, you can fast-track optimization and uncover what works in record time.

What if we could take it one step further?

Segmenting by categories is a great place to start.

But what if we could drill down by categories like:

Lowest CAC Products
Highest AOV Products
