Hello, Imogen

Thank you for being part of the Mechanical Orchard community—and for always looking for better ways to do the right thing.

As a subscriber to our newsletter, we wanted to share with you an announcement going out today around our new mainframe modernization platform, Imogen.

Imogen assembles the suite of tooling we’ve developed over the past two years into a form that makes it far faster to rewrite mainframe applications based on the three principles that underpin our approach of safe, reliable, modernization:

The existing system behavior is the specification
Rewrite an exact replica in modern language
Deploy incrementally into production

Our breakthrough is in solving for the innate untrustworthiness of generative AI by guiding it to converge rapidly on code that matches the inputs and outputs of the legacy system exactly. This folds in the integration and testing into the rewriting of individual components rather than leaving it for a separate, indeterminate phase further down the line, which radically shortens the time it takes to move well-factored, maintainable code into production.

As part of our go-to-market efforts, we’re also announcing our partnership with Thoughtworks, a global technology consulting firm with deep roots in agile software development methodologies. In fact, we go way back: Rob Mee and Edward Hieatt once co-authored a book with Thoughtworks’s chief scientist, Martin Fowler.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more stories about how our customers are using Imogen. In the meantime, here’s more detail about our news:
