5-Bullet Friday

The latest from author and investor Tim Ferriss

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you.

This edition is brought to you by LMNT. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.

What I’m listening to

“D’un crépuscule, l’autre” (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music) by Abderraouf Ouertani via Sr. Mugwort. Excellent for evening and Friday wind-downs.

What I’m reading

“Would you do it if you could? Advanced DNA testing for embryos is here — and it’s fraught.” Click here if you have any issues accessing the link. From the article:

“This has somewhat flown under the societal radar, but it’s happening,” says Todd Lencz, a professor of psychiatry and molecular medicine in the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and a leading researcher on the new genetic testing of embryos. “It’s not a question of if it will happen, or what the technology will be in three years. People are doing this now.”

Wholesome video I enjoyed a lot more than expected

Becorns Episode 3: Orioles vs Catbirds. This is both creatively inspiring and deeply calming. From the description: “A peek at my creative process as I create a Becorn and photograph it with an oriole... and inevitably, with catbirds too.” Thanks to Whitmire for sending me this family-friendly goodness, which makes a great palate cleanser after any craziness on the web.

Healthy and fast protein that I’m enjoying

Classic Norwegian Roasted Salmon from Changing Seas. These days, I’m doing endurance training in the morning for 3–4 hours, and I like quick turnaround meals. For protein, I’m alternating between these ready-to-eat salmon filets and three sticks of Maui Nui wild-harvested venison.

Quote I’m pondering

“Health lies in action, and so it graces youth. To be busy is the secret of grace, and half the secret of content. Let us ask the gods not for possessions, but for things to do; happiness is in making things rather than in consuming them.”
— Will Durant (Hat tip to Matt Mullenweg who introduced me to this quote in our most recent podcast conversation.)

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with this clip on gene editing from my conversation with Walter Isaacson, this segment on human cloning from a special “Heresies” edition of The Tim Ferriss Show, and my interview with Bird by Bird author Anne Lamott.

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — LMNT’s delicious electrolyte drink mix!

I’ve enjoyed LMNT for years now. I typically use 1–2 packs per day to add electrolytes, which helps me maintain both focus and energy levels. I add electrolytes for many reasons: because I over-hydrate compulsively while stuck at a laptop (which dilutes electrolytes and leads me to feel tired); because I’m typically on a low-carb diet; and because I’ve lost electrolytes through exercise, dry winter climates, sauna, etc. It’s convenient hydration insurance that tastes great.

Each serving of LMNT delivers a meaningful dose of electrolytes without the garbage—no sugar, no artificial ingredients, no coloring, no junk. My favorite flavor is Citrus Salt, which, as a side note, you can use to make a kick-ass, no-sugar margarita. For the colder months, I’ve also been enjoying their chocolate flavors to mix into my favorite hot beverages. For a limited time, LMNT is offering the Chocolate Medley, which includes Chocolate Chai, Chocolate Raspberry, and Chocolate Mint, to help you stay hydrated and warm during the winter months. Find your favorite flavor with a free LMNT Sample Pack, included with any purchase. And if you don’t love your purchase for any reason, my friends at LMNT offer a no-questions-asked refund policy. This special offer is available at DrinkLMNT.com/Tim.
