5-Bullet Friday

The latest from author and investor Tim Ferriss

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you. I added a bonus bullet for funsies.

This edition is brought to you by AG1. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.

Short clip I’m watching

“Alfred Hitchcock defines happiness.” This is an excerpt from a 1964 interview with Alfred Hitchcock, part of the CBC television series “Telescope,” with host-director Fletcher Markle.

Book I’m finishing

The Power Law: Venture Capital and the Making of the New Future by Sebastian Mallaby. This book was mentioned quite a few times by podcast guests before I picked it up as an audiobook, in part because I learned so much from Sebastian’s earlier book, More Money Than God. I expected to know most of the venture history, but there were a ton of behind-the-scenes stories and details that I hadn’t heard before. It was also fun to get more background on at least a dozen game-changers who have been on the podcast (Bill Gurley, Patrick Collison, Roelof Botha, etc.). Even if you don’t have time for the entire book, I strongly recommend everyone listen to the concluding chapter portions on how countries can foster innovation and the geopolitical implications of tech investing, which are vast. The next few years will see a lot of this come to the forefront.

What I’m watching and listening to

“Pisces (Live Session)” by JINJER (@jinjerofficial). A lot of you have been asking me for Ukrainian music and gorgeous, talented humans with extreme range (or was that a fever dream?). Well, JINJER might be just what you need. Be sure to listen to the first two minutes for the surprise transformation. It’s no joke. As commenter @davidacus956 put it, “I heard this on Spotify and was like ‘I like the distinction between the two vocalists’ and then I watched this.” And if that whets your appetite, here’s a bonus with a festive costume change. Huge thanks to S. for the recommendation!

Gadget I’m loving

Pitbull Head and Face Shaver (official website, Amazon). A few weeks ago, I met a fellow baldy while skiing. My pate was growing out and beginning to look a little bedraggled, and I complimented him on his clean shave. To that, I added my usual comment: “I just can’t use a blade on my head. Cut it once and it bled everywhere. Too much hassle.” He responded with “Oh, I don’t use a blade” and sent me the Pitbull Head and Face Shaver as a gift. I’ve only used it for a few weeks, but it’s been absolutely fantastic. I suggest using it at least every other day or every few days, since it can’t chomp well on longer hair. I have the platinum model, but it seems like people equally love the less expensive gold version. Bonus: a single charge seems to last a few weeks of usage. Thanks, Craig!

What I’m excited to share with you

“Behind the Scenes: Who Is The Real Audience of The Tim Ferriss Show?” Nearly 8,000 of you filled out my recent audience survey. I promised I would share the results, and here they are.

Quote I’m pondering

“I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try.”
— Roger Ebert, “Go gentle into that good night.”

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my brand-new interview with bestselling author and mega-creative Hugh Howey, the latest episode (“How to Surf”) from The Tim Ferriss Experiment, and my conversation with author Arthur C. Brooks on how to be happy.

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — AG1!

I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and didn’t get paid to do so. I focus on nutrient-dense meals, of course, but AG1 further covers the nutritional gaps in my diet. With AG1, you get a high-quality multivitamin and multimineral, pre- and probiotics, adaptogens, greens, and more, providing you a cost-efficient way to consolidate your supplement stack into one product for less than $3.00 per day. Rather than taking multiple pills or products to cover your mental clarity, gut health, immune health, energy, etc., you can support these areas through one daily scoop of AG1, which tastes great, even with water. AG1 in single-serve travel packs also makes for the perfect travel companion.

After consuming this product for 12 years, I chose to invest in AG1 in 2021, as I trust their no-compromise approach to ingredient sourcing and appreciate their focus on continuously improving one formula.

There is no better time than today to start a new, healthy habit, so take advantage of this exclusive offer for 5-Bullet Friday readers: a free 1-year supply of liquid vitamin D + 5 travel packs with your subscription.
