5-Bullet Friday

The latest from author and investor Tim Ferriss

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you.

I’m also feeling frisky, so I’ve thrown in an extra bullet...

This edition is brought to you by Momentous. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.

Documentary I’m watching

American Symphony. This is the most beautiful documentary I’ve seen in a long time. If you listen carefully, there are a lot of philosophical gems worth chewing on. Here’s the official description: “In this deeply intimate documentary, musician Jon Batiste attempts to compose a symphony as his wife, writer Suleika Jaouad, undergoes cancer treatment.” At the least, I suggest you watch the short trailer here.

Song I’m listening to

“El Estuche” (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music) by Aterciopelados. Perfect for Texas spring and calling in some Latin vibes.

Short video I’m watching

“Kobe Bryant - ‘Failure Doesn’t Exist’” It’s easy to get caught up in labels and false constructs. Don’t let “failure” be one of them.

What I’m reading

“Ketamine is being sold as a depression wonder drug. For some, it’s making everything worse.” Please try this alternate link if you have any trouble accessing the article. This is a timely and important piece by Anna Silman (@annaesilman). In the last three years, I’ve seen more high-functioning people derailed by ketamine than any other substance.

What I'm reading (and involved with)

“Book Startup Pitches Authors a Novel Deal: $0 Up Front, Bigger Profits” (Wall Street Journal) and “A New Publisher Promises Authors ‘the Lion’s Share of the Profit’” (New York Times). I’m thrilled to be involved with this new venture in publishing. I hope it sets new precedents in an age-old industry that’s ripe for innovation. You can find the Authors Equity website here.

For more on unorthodox approaches to publishing and book deals (e.g., how can you hit the NYT list with self-published books?), check out next week’s podcast with one of the most successful present-day authors.

Quote I’m pondering

“Intelligence is the capacity to perceive the essential, the what is; and to awaken this capacity, in oneself and in others, is education.”

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with LeBron James, the latest episode (“How to Swim”) from The Tim Ferriss Experiment, and my conversation with renowned real-estate and Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran.

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — Momentous high-quality supplements!

Momentous offers high-quality supplements and products across a broad spectrum of categories, and I’ve been testing their products for months now. Lately, I’ve been using their Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate Powder (chocolate is my favorite flavor) daily, as I’m getting more serious about training. Protein is a critical building block of the human body, and ample amounts are key to recovery. I literally just finished skiing, and the first thing I did was get my 20–30 grams of protein with Momentous. If you want your body to operate at its best, it needs the right fuel, and Momentous Whey is my go-to post-workout protein. Their whey is sourced from EU dairy farmers who adhere to strict regulations, and it comes from grass-fed cows free of hormones, steroids, and rBST. Plus, Momentous products are third-party tested (Informed Sport and/or NSF-certified), so you can trust that what is on the label is in the bottle… and nothing else.

Momentous is offering subscribers of 5-Bullet Friday 36% off their first-time subscription order of Whey Protein. And if you don’t feel like subscribing, you can still get 20% off all their world-class products, and they ship internationally. Click here to try Momentous for yourself.
