5-Bullet Friday

The latest from author and investor Tim Ferriss

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you.

This edition is brought to you by Sundays for Dogs. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.

What I’m rereading

“A Pickpocket’s Tale: The spectacular thefts of Apollo Robbins” by Adam Green (The New Yorker). This was sent to me by Jeffrey Zurofsky (“JZ” from The 4-Hour Chef). Here’s one paragraph to give you a taste:

When Robbins hits his stride, it starts to seem as if the only possible explanation is an ability to start and stop time. At the Rio, a man’s cell phone disappeared from his jacket and was replaced by a piece of fried chicken; the cigarettes from a pack in one man’s breast pocket materialized loose in the side pocket of another; a woman’s engagement ring vanished and reappeared attached to a key ring in her husband’s pants; a man’s driver’s license disappeared from his wallet and turned up inside a sealed bag of M&M’s in his wife’s purse.

Pair this with Apollo’s TED Talk “The art of misdirection,” one of the 20 most-viewed TED Talks of all time, to see Apollo in action.

Documentary I’m watching

In Search of Greatness. This documentary thematically fits into a lot of the reading I’m currently doing. The official description: “Through the eyes of the greatest athletes of all time, In Search of Greatness is a cinematic journey into the secrets of genius. From award-winning filmmaker Gabe Polsky, this groundbreaking feature documentary includes original interviews with Wayne Gretzky, Pelé, and Jerry Rice. It also features Muhammad Ali, Einstein, David Bowie, Serena Williams, and Michael Jordan, among others.” You can watch the trailer here. Gabe’s earlier Red Army doc is also fantastic.

Exercises I’m doing

Legendary 86-Year-Old Physical Therapist Dr. Shirley Sahrmann Demonstrates Her Morning Exercises. Many of you asked for a video demonstration of Dr. Shirley Sahrmann’s morning exercises that she mentioned in our podcast. Her new demonstration video is a great addition to the longer episode, in which we discussed low-back pain, movement as medicine, and much, much more.

What I finished writing

Curious what I and 5BF subscribers have found most interesting this year? I collected and curated the 25 most popular items from 5-Bullet Friday so far this year in a short blog post here: “25 of My Favorite Books, Articles, Gadgets, Tech, and More (So Far in 2023).”

Quote I’m pondering

“In order to change skins, evolve into new cycles, I feel one has to learn to discard. If one changes internally, one should not continue to live with the same objects. They reflect one’s mind and psyche of yesterday. I throw away what has no dynamic, living use.”

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with blind magician Richard Turner showing me mind-blowing card tricks, Derek Sivers’s advice on how to reinvent yourself, and this week’s interview with Levels co-founder Sam Corcos on creating personal and business leverage with tools, systems, and processes.

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — 35% off Sundays for Dogs, ultra-high-quality dog food without the prep or mess.

I want to give my pooch, Molly, the best of everything. This is especially true when it comes to the ingredient quality of her food. But most healthy dog foods are an expensive, frozen mess. They’re a hassle to thaw and serve, and the prep work eats up time I’d rather spend hiking with Molly. Sundays for Dogs solves my problem with air-dried, high-quality dog food I can store and pour right from my pantry.

The magic behind Sundays for Dogs is in their proprietary air-drying method. To lock in nutrients, they gently dry the meat, low and slow. Unlike other dry brands, which are filled with hyper-processed grains and synthetic vitamins, Sundays for Dogs uses only all-natural poultry and USDA-grade beef. Meat makes up 90% of their recipes. The other 10% are fruits and veggies, ingredients you’d find at the farmer’s market and not at the pharmacy.

Sundays for Dogs and I have worked out a special deal just for my subscribers. Get 35% off your first order of Sundays for Dogs by going to SundaysForDogs.com/TIM or by using code TIM at checkout. Upgrade your pup to Sundays for Dogs and feel great about the food you feed your best friend.
