Hey UpCircler - Happy Sunday!

Anna here, UpCircle co-founder. Hope you're enjoying your weekend so far!

One third of all food in the UK is wasted, yet a third of people have a skincare routine. That’s a huge opportunity to save the planet through skincare.

At UpCircle, we make sustainable skincare and haircare from ingredients that would otherwise be discarded.

It all started when we discovered that more than 500,000 tonnes of coffee grounds that are consumed each year in the UK alone are sent to landfill, where they produce methane. On discovering this, my brother Will and I decided to start collecting coffee grounds from cafes across London to transform them into coffee body and face scrubs.

But it's not just coffee! We've come a long way and now upcycle more than fifty by-product ingredients including oat husks, rose petals, hibiscus flowers and orange peel. (Read all about them here).

We’ve extended the circular approach we take to our ingredients to packaging and have now refilled 100,000 pieces of packaging via our “Return + Refill” scheme. (Not tried it? Find out more here).

We're a certified B-Corp, certified vegan, certified cruelty-free, certified plastic negative, sustainable and use 99% plastic-free packaging, primarily glass and aluminium.

Of course, none of this would be possible with you – our UpCirclers. So THANK YOU for sharing our commitment to sustainable skincare and haircare that’s good for you, and does the world some good too. Sometimes we make mistakes (we're only human!), but we won’t falter in our determination to create a new standard in an industry with a bad reputation for sustainability. We’re delighted to have you join us on the journey and excited to show you what we’ve been working on behind the scenes later this year!
